Abhijit Pal is a multidisciplinary visual artist and educator based in Naarm/Melbourne, whose practice fluidly explores social memory, cultural narratives, and collaborative storytelling through photography. With over a decade of experience teaching visual arts across India, Europe, and Australia, Abhijit brings a global perspective and a deep commitment to fostering creative growth and cross-cultural understanding.

In Australia, his exhibitions include Recounting Connections at Trocadero Projects and ongoing community-led initiatives that use visual storytelling to build cultural bridges.
Recognition: His artistic merit has been acknowledged with the Nat Geo Moment Award, a Special Mention in the London International Creative Competition, and a DAAD Scholarship for postgraduate study in Germany. His acclaimed publication Thingstätten, released by Kerber Verlag (Germany), further cements his contribution to critical visual research and contemporary photography.
Interdisciplinary Education: Abhijit holds an MFA in Applied Art from Rabindra Bharati University (India) and a BA in Photography from the University of Arts and Applied Sciences Dortmund (Germany). This blend of design sensitivity, fine art theory, and visual ethnography informs a practice that bridges artistic experimentation with cultural inquiry.
Material Practice & Poetic Expression
In recent years, Abhijit has begun literally stitching poetry into his photographic canvases, using needle and thread to intertwine text, memory, and image. These tactile works reflect on his Bengali village roots and the emotional landscapes of migration, displacement, and belonging — transforming photography into an act of healing and remembrance.
