Tania Lacy
Author Satirist TV Presenter Screenwriter Mentor The Factory Countdown
Tania Lacy is one of Australia’s most original and fearless voices. Bursting onto TV screens in the late 1980s with Countdown Revolution and the sub-cult hit The Factory, she quickly became known for her lightning-fast wit, unforgettable characters, and magnetic stage presence. She also choreographed the entire dance sequence for Kylie Minogue’s Locomotion, showcasing her multifaceted creative talent.
Over nearly four decades, Tania has brought her unique comedic genius to international stages and screens, including the Telluride and Sundance Film Festivals, Tropfest, the Melbourne and Edinburgh International Comedy Festivals, and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. She became a familiar face on iconic Australian television programs such as Hey Hey It’s Saturday and Countdown, where she engaged with music legends including Kylie Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, INXS, Nick Cave, and Jimmy Barnes, working alongside the legendary Molly Meldrum.
Tania’s career spans award-winning short films (Titsiana Booberini, Pussy Got Your Tongue?), acclaimed solo shows (All of Me), TV writing, and published novels. Her comedy blends absurd humour with deeply human insights, shaped by a life that’s taken her from ballet school to Berlin, through motherhood, midlife, and beyond.
As a mentor, Tania draws on decades of creative industry experience to inspire emerging talent. She has mentored RMIT writing students and helped implement a new core topic, Writing for Screen, which became fully integrated into the curriculum and culminated in the program’s first-ever scriptwriting assessment.

“What is one thing you hope audiences will take away from your show? Whilst it’s fun to laugh at all the shit life dishes out, I guess the deeper message is keep going. Resilience is the key to success in life.”
