Tania Lacy

Author Screenwriter Comedian Actress Mentor

Tania Lacy is one of Australia’s most original and fearless comedic voices. Bursting onto TV screens in the late 1980s with Countdown Revolution and the sub-cult hit The Factory, she quickly became known for her lightning-fast wit, unforgettable characters, and magnetic stage presence.

With a vivacious spirit that lights up every room, Tania’s infectious humour and razor-sharp storytelling have taken her from Australian lounge rooms to some of the world’s most prestigious stages and screens. Over her nearly four-decade career, she has brought her unique comedic genius to the Telluride and Sundance Film Festivals, Tropfest, the Melbourne and Edinburgh International Comedy Festivals, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and more.

Early in her career, Tania became a familiar face on iconic Australian television programs Hey Hey It’s Saturday and Countdown. On Countdown, she wasn’t just a performer—she was a bold, playful interviewer, engaging with music legends including Kylie Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, INXS, Michael Hutchence, Nick Cave, Midnight Oil, and Jimmy Barnes, all while working alongside the legendary Molly Meldrum. These moments cemented her reputation as a versatile entertainer with an effortless ability to connect with stars and audiences alike.

Tania’s career spans award-winning short films (Titsiana Booberini, Pussy Got Your Tongue?), acclaimed solo shows (All of Me), TV writing, and published novels. Her comedy blends absurd humour with deeply human insights, shaped by a life that’s taken her from ballet school to Berlin, through motherhood, midlife, and beyond.

As a mentor, Tania draws on decades of creative industry experience to inspire emerging talent. She has mentored RMIT writing students and was instrumental in implementing a new core topic, Writing for Screen, which was so well-received it became integrated into the course curriculum—culminating in the first-ever scriptwriting assessment for the program.
